fragrance review

I just wanna feel warm…

Early mornings and the cold scare me. The thought of waking up when it’s still dark and having to venturing outside, fills me with dread. I’ve made sure it doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s usually to catch a flight. Nearly always booked by a friend trying to save money and maximise the time away. If it’s up to me I always fly during the day. Anything to avoid waking up when it’s dark and cold. View Post

Being a 90’s kid I’m feeling so much nostalgia for the fashion revival I’m seeing right now. The oversized streetwear with massive logo’s from brands like Champion, Fila and Kappa bring back comforting memories from my years growing up. Another moment from the 90’s, one I was too young to buy into was Calvin Klein. The recently revived Obsessed fragrance still uses the original campaign featuring Kate Moss. For as long as I can remember I have loved Kate and as time passes her rockstar status only increases.

When your favourite fragrance gets some fancy new packaging you know it’s going to be a great week. The Woods by Brooklyn Soap Company has been serving me in the fragrance department since last Spring when I first got my hands on a bottle. What I like most is that it works all year round. Somehow it’s rich and sweet enough for the Winter and perky enough for the Summer. Magic! For now, this is my signature sent and I’m feeling it. You can pick yourself up a bottle from here!

Top: Mandarine, Black Pepper, Fresh Ginger, Bergamotte, Tyme.

Heart: Absinthe, Iris Absolut, Red Pepper, Nutmeg.

Fond: Myrrhe, Amber Musk, Benjoin Siam, Cashmir Wood, Incense.

When I’m feeling out of sorts there is nothing like an exceptional scented candle to get me in the zone. With the transition from Summer to Autumn it’s time to wrap up warm prepare some comforting food and get cozy. A scented candle is mandatory to complete the cozy situation. I’m currently burning Darkwood by MAD et LEN which is the perfect scent for this time of year. It’s a slightly rich and aromatic scent which transports me to a stately home tucked away somewhere in the countryside. Notes of leather and smokey wood create a comforting atmosphere without being overtly heavy.

MAD et LEN is from France and the incredible packaging instantly elevates the brand to pure luxury. Each hand poured candle is housed in a hammered iron case with a black fumé finish. The fragrance is created using aged essential oils from Grasse that are stabilised in vegetable wax. There are a variety of fragrances to choose from and I’m already thinking about adding something else to my collection. Lighting one of these after a hectic day at work transports me to that zone, and then shortly after, all the stress is forgotten.

Disclaimer. Brands and PR agencies regularly send me products and clothes as samples. I only feature/wear/review the things that suit my personal style and that I enjoy using. What works for me may not work for you. To be on the safe side, try before you buy.

When you don’t happen to live next to the ocean or a fragrant meadow you can still have a home that encapsulates the spirit of summer. Simply invest in a good quality fragranced candle that will last you for the entire season.
