Like me, my hair can be a little rebellious! It’s slightly curly and I have to be careful how I style it otherwise it looks fluffy and dry. Below I will list some useful tips on how I coiffe my quiff.

  • I try not to wash it too often. Daily washing leaves my hair particularly dry and fluffy which I obviously hate. I wait until my hair starts to look greasy before I wash it. I usually get away with once a week. In between I just rinse it in the shower.
  • Most days I let it air dry. My hair has more grip and volume when it’s not super clean. On these days I comb my hair into place when it’s still wet and let it dry naturally. I recommend a carbon comb because they are anti-static and prevent fly away’s.
  • On special occasions I go all out. In the picture above I blow-dried my hair and finished with a little product. I often do this on washing day to avoid the fluff or when I want to look my best. I rough dry my hair with a blow dryer and gently smooth out the front with a brush. My favourite is the Y.S. Park from Japan. I finish with a small amount of matte paste to create a piece-y effect. I’m currently loving Malin + Goetz hair pomade.

Last year the blog was very skincare heavy. This year I decided to take it easy with the products and focus on other topics. However, there will be regular skincare posts. But I’m going to try and keep them to product categories or skincare routines.

If you want to reverse skin damage, delay the signs of skin ageing or preserve the current state of your skin then retinol has your name all over it. After SPF retinols or retinoids are the only legitimate anti-ageing skincare ingredients. I will include some links below if you would like more in depth information. Today I’m going to show you four varieties from my skincare stash.

The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%. This bad boy packs a punch and it’s cheap as chips at just £8.00/9.80€. Don’t be fooled by the price. This is one of the strongest versions I’ve used and it’s fragrance free. A great option if you want transformative skincare on a budget. Unfortunately, if you are new to retinol or have sensitive skin then this is likely too strong. Start with 0.5% and work your way up to this strength. With this product you get way more for your money.

Paula’s Choice 1% Retinol Treatment. This is also pretty strong and therefore not a good option if you are a first timer (they have milder options). I like this a lot as it does exactly what it says on the tin. At £53.00 the price is good for what you get. It’s perfectly packaged in an airtight container and it’s also fragrance free.

African Botanics Intensive Recovery Oil. This is hands down one of my favourite brands. The founders are lovely and they sure know how to create luxury. Besides retinol this serum/oil contains Baobab (rich in antioxidants, vitamins A,C & E. Omega’s 3, 6 & 9), Marula Oil (rich in vitamin E & antioxidants) and CoQ10 (aids collagen production). It also contains Immortelle Jasmine flowers so this is definitely more than just a retinol. And so it should be at £175.00. This is an absolute treat and my skin looks soft and bright the morning after. Three or four drops is plenty so the 30ml bottle should last around a year.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil. Perhaps the most famous retinol product ever. I’m sure you have read a review on this. The inclusion of synthetic colour pigments with soothing Blue Tansy give this it’s deep blue hue. Cold pressed oils elevate this from a standard retinol product. A little goes a long way so £85.00 for 30ml doesn’t seem so outrageous to me.

When using any type of Retinol or Retinoid it’s essential you wear an SPF 30 or higher everyday. Please see links below for more information.

January can be tough. We all know it because it’s the same every year. Christmas is over taking the delicious food, parties and lazy mornings in bed. Leaving large tummies and larger credit card bills. Oh yeah, and it’s freezing cold outside.

Alas, I’m here to lift our spirits with some simple ideas to give you peace of mind.

  • REORGANISE ONE AREA OF YOUR HOME Focusing on one place such as the bedroom or lounge is easily achievable. My desk quickly becomes cluttered and dusty so I chose this as my area to make over. Moving some furniture around and throwing any junk away makes a huge difference and it feels really good.
  • DITCH THE GYM Right now gyms are packed full of people trying to get fit as a new years resolution. I find a busy gym super stressful. It’s much nicer to work out at home. The lean machines have a you tube channel with great routines (and healthy recipes) to get you ripped. If you prefer a zen workout then go for yoga with Adriene. She just started a 31 day course called yoga revolution which I love.
  • MAKE A JUICE OR SMOOTHIE A simple green juice is a great choice after your workout or first thing in the morning. If you prefer something a little sweeter and more filling then check out my skin boosting hyaluronic acid smoothie recipe.

When your favourite fragrance gets some fancy new packaging you know it’s going to be a great week. The Woods by Brooklyn Soap Company has been serving me in the fragrance department since last Spring when I first got my hands on a bottle. What I like most is that it works all year round. Somehow it’s rich and sweet enough for the Winter and perky enough for the Summer. Magic! For now, this is my signature sent and I’m feeling it. You can pick yourself up a bottle from here!

This guide is based upon photo’s from my phone. They weren’t taken with the intention of creating a guide, they are from my wanders around the capital. You can visit all of the places shown below whilst walking. It will take roughly 1-3 hours to see everything depending on your pace. Let me show you the way.

The first two pictures show St Paul’s Cathedral up close. Then among the skyline from the viewing deck of the switch house building at TATE Modern. Both places are super touristy but I love them all the same. When visiting the TATE Modern I get the bus or tube to St Pauls station. On a Sunday morning it’s super quiet and great for wandering around the City of London. This area is only busy Monday to Friday during work hours. The tate is always busy, but it’s worth it, especially with the new building which opened last year. In the second image you can see the Millennium bridge which takes you from St Pauls across the river to the entrance at the tate. This offers the best views of the river Thames, Tower Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and Shakespeare’s Globe. Once you reach the entrance I recommend heading straight up to the viewing deck in the switch house building. You can grab a coffee, enjoy the best views of London and then make your way down whilst exploring the galleries.

Afterwards, head out and when you are facing the river take a left and walk 5-10 minutes along the Thames path toward Blackfriars Station. Keep going and you will find the Mondrian Hotel. If the weather is good. By good I mean not raining. You can sit outside at Sea Containers restaurant and have drinks and snacks. There are so many places to eat around here that I prefer to grab small dishes at different places along the way.

From here you can continue along the Thames path in the same direction and you will soon reach South Bank. There’s lot’s to see with shops or places for food and coffee. You will also find the British Film Institute (BFI). If you walk on for another 10 minutes you will see the Royal Festival Hall. Here you can walk the Hungerford Bridge over the river to Embankment. Follow signs to Trafalgar Square, Big Ben or Somerset House. All of these places are close to Covent Garden (pictured below). The areas are well sign posted so you will easily find directions.

If you are looking to spend a lazy few hours seeing the tourist hot spots then this route has you covered. And when walking you will encounter many hidden gems along the way.
