If you fancy adding some luxury items to your skincare collection then you have come to the right place. And if not I suggest you hang around regardless and admire the beauty of the aesthetically pleasing products in today’s post. There has been a lot of Sunday Riley love on here recently which hasn’t faltered with my latest discovery Good Genes*.  This multi-tasking treatment serum was created to exfoliate, brighten and plump the skin. Key ingredients are Lactic Acid which exfoliates and firms the skin whilst licorice, squaline and yeast extract work in synergy to reduce inflammation, brighten and repair the skin whilst strengthening the natural barrier function. As is the case with Sunday Riley I found this product stronger than I expected which isn’t a bad thing. It noticeably brightened and smoothed my skin after the first use but I had to stop using it daily as my skin became a little sensitive. At the moment I’m using it a few times a week as a serum which works perfectly. At 130€ this isn’t cheap but Sunday Riley products are a pleasure to use and they look amazing in the bathroom. So, if you can afford it then I say give it a try and see for yourself. If this is out of your price range then Paula’s Choice offer similar corrective serums that don’t look as great but get the job done regardless.

Next up is KOSHO Creamy Cleansing* which is an all-natural foaming face wash containing organic Matcha tea. This is another range that looks great in the bathroom yet it was the use of Matcha that caught my attention as this contains large amounts of antioxidants which are great for our skin. I like my cleansers to be as mild as possible, despite this being a foaming cleanser it remained very gentle, leaving my skin soft, bright and slightly hydrated. I expected the fragrance to remind me somehow of tea which it doesn’t so I’m interested to know how the other products in the range smell. This comes in a very nice green box and there’s no doubt this is a luxury range. Based on my experience with the cleanser I’m intrigued to try some other products in the range as I have a feeling they could be very nice.

Coffee is one of the things in life I find difficult to give up. That first sip each morning brings me so much joy that I justify it as one of life’s guilty pleasures. A simple cup of coffee (or 2 or 3) – it could be worse, right?! I’ve heard so many times that coffee is bad for us, bad for our digestion, dehydrating, bad for our skin. Blah blah blah. This got me wondering what the health benefits to drinking coffee are, there must be some? It turns out I was right so here are 10 good reasons to drink coffee.

  • 2 cups can cut post workout pain by up to 48%
  • Protects the liver.
  • Lowers the risk of type 2 Diabetes.
  • You could be less likely to suffer from depression.
  • Lessons the risk of heart disease.
  • Prevents retinal damage.
  • Coffee can improve energy levels and make you smarter.
  • It can help you burn fat.
  • Coffee contains essential nutrients including B vitamins and potassium.
  • A great source of antioxidants.

Based on this information it might not be so bad to enjoy the odd cup of coffee each day. For more information and links to the scientific studies to back up these claims visit here and here.

sönd2

Sönd skincare is a relatively new anti-ageing skincare brand that targets sensitive skin. The key ingredient throughout Sönd is silica which they say is a key component for collagen production which ties in with their anti-ageing claims, it’s also an anti-inflammatory which tackles the sensitivity. Perhaps I’m wrong but it seems more people have sensitive skin these days? Perhaps it’s the increased use of acid exfoliators, vitamin c, retinoids etc, I’m not sure! Sönd is a small range with 4 products, 3 are topical with one supplement. I received samples of Revitalising face serum, Replenishing face oil and the Energising mineral supplements. I didn’t know what to expect with this brand, the packaging is neutral and I haven’t heard reports from any of my usual sources. The serum has a nice texture, it’s milky in colour and glides across the skin before quickly absorbing without a trace of stickiness. Off to a good start then! About 15 minutes after applying the serum I noticed my skin feeling cooler and noticeably calmer which I wasn’t expecting. With this I am very impressed because I can’t recall using skincare for sensitive skin where you can feel the results so quickly. I’ve found myself reaching for the serum over other products in my bathroom which is a good sign.

I received a tester sample of the face oil which I haven’t used as much but I still like, mostly because it contains coconut oil over fragranced essential oils. Like the serum this also contains silicone. I usually go for all natural face oils but I won’t complain about the use of silicone in this case as I believe it allows the product to glide across the skin seamlessly, thus preventing any irritation from dragging the skin. It smells slightly minty which isn’t my thing but I can see the function with this as it helps cool the skin.

Many of us take various daily supplements without seeing exactly what they do but we continue taking them because we know they are good for us. I’ve been given samples of various skincare drinks or supplements which I like to take as I believe they work yet I find them difficult to recommend when I haven’t seen noticeable results. On the same note I don’t expect noticeable results because they are just one part of an overall healthy lifestyle. The same goes for the Energising mineral supplements so I am going to simply tell you that I like them ‘I do’ and why. Sönd say that as we age silica depletes in our bodies therefor taking a silica supplement will boost our levels which has a positive effect on the elasticity and collagen levels of our skin. I hope I said that correctly! It’s worth noting that silica is also present in green vegetables so considering I drink a cold pressed green juice most days may explain why I haven’t seen a huge difference in the short time I’ve been taking the supplements. I noticed that they also contain magnesium which is what I like most about them. I used to take magnesium supplements a while back when I was training at the gym. It prevents muscle cramps and it also aids a good nights sleep! So when I saw magnesium as well as vitamin E in the ingredients I was sold that this is a good supplement for me to be taking. What’s next from Sönd? Hopefully a cleanser and some body products!

There’s nothing like those first days of Spring when it’s sunny and the temperature is mild. On the reverse we can experience the erratic changes in weather when it’s sunny one minute and then raining or cold the next. During this time is can be difficult to decide what to wear in the morning. In my featured look I’m wearing a medium density shirt with black a t-shirt underneath. By layering I will be warm enough if the temperature dips and I can take the shirt off and wear just the t-shirt if and when the sun comes out.

The gender camps have blurred when it comes to make up. I know guys who wear tons of the stuff and women who barely touch it. Parts of society have become less interested in labeling each other which has been a long time coming. You define yourself as gay? That’s so 90’s! The steps we’ve made in how we accept each other has opened up doors, particularly for men, when it comes to style and cosmetics. I like brands such as Grown Alchemist and Aesop because they offer gender neutral products that look great in any bathroom or wash bag. High five for brands like these because I find the whole grrrrrr just for MEN thing a bit stupid.

As I’m using retinoid products it’s essential I use an SPF everyday and I’ve noticed my skin looking paler than usual. I’m into pale skin but I’m starting to look a bit ghostly. To combat this I’ve been on the lookout for a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser in the hope it will even out my completion and add some colour whilst looking completely natural. I asked one of the experts at Niche-Beauty & Niche-Men for some guidance and they sent me a sample of Grown Alchemist Tinted Hydra-Repair Day Cream. I was taken a back when I saw the colour as it looks very dark but the description says it’s suitable for all skin tones. 1-2 pumps on top of my moisturiser/SPF gives my skin the perfect amount of colour without me looking like I’m wearing any makeup which is exactly what I was aiming for.
