Keep reading if you have sensitive skin? In fact, keep reading anyway…

Sönd skincare is a relatively new anti-ageing skincare brand that targets sensitive skin. The key ingredient throughout Sönd is silica. Silica is a key component for collagen production which ties in with their anti-ageing claims. It’s also an anti-inflammatory which tackles sensitivity caused my inflammation.

Perhaps I’m wrong but it seems more people have sensitive skin these days? Perhaps it’s the increased use of acid exfoliators, vitamin c and retinoids? I’m not sure! Sönd has a small range of four products. Three are topical and there’s a supplement.

I received samples of Revitalising face serum, replenishing face oil and energising mineral supplements. I didn’t know what to expect from this brand. The packaging is neutral and I haven’t heard reports from any of my usual sources. On first impression the serum has a nice silky texture. It’s milky in colour and glides across the skin then absorbs quickly without stickiness. About 15 minutes after applying the serum I noticed my skin felt cooler and calmer. I find this impressive and I haven’t felt such a calming reaction from a serum before. I know find myself reaching for this over other products in my bathroom. That has to be a good sign or should I say söhn!

I received a tester sample of the face oil which I haven’t been as drawn to. It’s still nice though and I can’t fault it. Coconut is the base of the oil and it also contains silicone. I prefer all-natural face oils but the silicone does give it a nice slip. It glides nicely across the skin which feels nice. The fragrance is slightly minty, this isn’t my thing but I see it might soothe the skin.

Many of us take an encyclopedia of daily supplements without a clue whether they actually do anything. I have tried various skincare drinks and supplements in the hope they actually work. I feel uncomfortable recommending someone buy something when I’m uncertain of the actual results.

The same goes for the Energising mineral supplements. I’m not suggesting you go out and buy them because I just don’t know if they do exactly what they say they will do. Sönd say that ‘as we age silica depletes in our bodies therefor taking a silica supplement will boost our levels which has a positive effect on the elasticity and collagen levels of our skin’. It’s worth noting that silica is also present in green vegetables. So perhaps a daily green juice is a more reliable option?

I noticed that they also contain magnesium which is what I like most about them. One thing in the supplements stood out and that’s magnesium. This is a supplement I will happily recommend. I used to take magnesium supplements a while back when I was training at the gym. It prevents muscle cramps and it also aids a good nights sleep! So when I saw magnesium as well as vitamin E I was a little more sold on the idea. What’s next from Sönd? Hopefully a cleanser and some body products!

There’s nothing like those first days of Spring when it’s sunny and the temperature is mild. On the reverse we can experience the erratic changes in weather when it’s sunny one minute and then raining or cold the next. During this time is can be difficult to decide what to wear in the morning. In my featured look I’m wearing a medium density shirt with black a t-shirt underneath. By layering I will be warm enough if the temperature dips and I can take the shirt off and wear just the t-shirt if and when the sun comes out.

The gender camps have blurred when it comes to make up. I know guys who wear tons of the stuff and women who barely touch it. Parts of society have become less interested in labeling each other. This has been a long time coming in my opinion. You define yourself as gay? That’s so 90’s! The steps we’ve made in how we accept each other has opened up doors, particularly for men. I like brands such as Grown Alchemist and Aesop because they offer gender neutral products. These are examples of modern, understated packaging that also looks great in any bathroom or wash bag. High five for brands like these because I find the whole grrrrrr just for MEN thing a bit stupid.

I’m currently using retinoid products and it’s essential I use an SPF everyday. And I’ve noticed my skin looking paler than usual. I’m into pale skin but I’m starting to look a bit ghostly. To combat this I’ve been on the lookout for a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser in the hope it will even out my completion and add some colour whilst looking completely natural. I asked one of the experts at Niche-Beauty & Niche-Men for some guidance and they sent me a sample of Grown Alchemist Tinted Hydra-Repair Day Cream. I was taken a back when I saw the colour as it looks very dark but the description says it’s suitable for all skin tones. 1-2 pumps on top of my moisturiser/SPF gives my skin the perfect amount of colour without me looking like I’m wearing any makeup which is exactly what I was aiming for.

It’s officially Springtime people! Well, in this part of the world at least. The Easter Holiday’s are over and and it’s time to freshen up my home and my skin.

Kiehl’s have launched two new masques to the range and they both look super. A few times a week I’m using the Cilantro & Orange Extract Pollutant Defending Masque. Whilst this is a purifying mask it’s different from the usual clay types. It brightens the skin leaving it soft and fresh looking. This should be used at night as the last step of your routine. I apply a generous amount to my face and leave on for 15 minutes. To finish I wipe off the excess and then leave it on overnight.

The smell is fresh and minty (don’t expect orange or sweet because it’s not) which seems strange for a nighttime product. I usually prefer something that comforting at night but if this works then I’m on board! The slight menthol fragrance helps stimulate blood flow overnight. This results in bright and fresh skin by morning – totally worth it!

I recommend a double cleanse to thoroughly remove the product. This leads me to Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser. I’m avoid harsh or heavy cleansers so I had some trepidation using this in case. I’m nervous anything with clay might leave my skin stripped. It totally didn’t! Whilst my skin tends to be dry my pores can also become clogged. To negate this I wanted to incorporate a cleanser that detoxifies my skin without stripping the natural oils. This cleanser is perfectly gentle yet leaves my skin super clean. Detoxifying and foaming are usually a bad combination for a cleanser. But in this case Sunday Riley has it down!

This week I had to make a work trip to Stuttgart, this small city has a few cultural highlights so I took the opportunity to take a stroll through the city center. And this is what I found, and also what I wore ; )
