This week I have three skin care winners that also happen to look great on the bathroom shelf. The new season brings a new cleanser and I’ve chosen the Perricone MD Gentle Cleanser which I really, really like. This is a foaming gel cleanser which is perfect for morning use and suitable for all skin types. The formula contains olive fruit extracts which are nourishing and hydrating. It’s a good option for sensitive skin as it’s fragrance free and sulfate free. This has a rich and slightly oily consistency but it’s non greasy and doesn’t leave a residue. It seems pricey but it’s a 237ml bottle and a little goes a long way so the cost per use makes it reasonable. I apply a 5 pence amount to damp skin, it foams quickly and rinses easily. The bottle is glass and potentially dangerous but I don’t care because it looks ace in my bathroom!

With cold weather approaching I’m taking precautions as central heating tries to suck the life out of my skin! NIOD Hydration Vaccine does what it says on the tin. The thick gel glides over the skin creating a breathable barrier to protect against moisture loss. I hate anything that leaves a noticeable residue on my skin – this does not. I recommend this for nighttime use, applied over your serum and under your moisturiser. I imagine this is an excellent product for use when flying and I plan to take it on my travels.

Kiehl’s excel when it comes to exfoliators and the new Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate is no exception. This is an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) exfoliator that comes as a serum to be used at night. It definitely works and expect to notice a difference after the first use. I’m always using various acid exfoliators so my skin is used to this type of product. If you are not then use two or three times a week and see how your skin feels. If you experience no redness of sensitivity then increase up to every night if you wish. Always use a daily SPF 25 or higher whilst using AHA. I find this a little drying on my skin so to counteract this I apply NIOD hydration vaccine on top followed by a little oil which creates the perfect balance for me.

If you’ve tried any of these send me a tweet and let me know your thoughts.

I have wanted to try this brand for ages and like a gift from god I was recently sent four products to test out. Malin + Goetz have been on my radar for a while and it was the minimal packaging that initially caught my eye. In a nut shell this is a natural skincare brand for sensitive skin which includes hair care, body care, fragrance and candles. Everything is developed for men and women. So far I’ve been using the Eucalyptus Deodorant and the Detox Face Mask.

In the last year brands have sent me almost every variety of natural deodorant and I’m starting to develop a complex. Do I stink? NO! One thing I’ve learned is that I prefer a deo stick as the liquid spays end up running down my arm. This one is a stick, it’s also alcohol free with a refreshing scent of eucalyptus and crucially – it works! I highly recommend it.

The detox face mask is where I get really excited. I wasn’t overjoyed when I first saw this as my skin is normal/dry and I regularly use retinol and exfoliating acids so I thought this might not be for me. It contains 0.3% soy protein and amino acid hydration technology plus a stable vitamin C and almond extract. Bear in mind this is a cleansing mask which isn’t apparent at first glance. I’ve chosen to apply it in the evening as a second cleanse after using a natural oil cleanser. The pump bottle is great as it keeps the ingredients stable and keeps any bacteria out allowing it to stay fresher for longer. I apply 3 pumps which looks like a cream and then foams whilst on the face, this part feels really good. After 4-5 minutes I remove it with a damp flannel, afterwards my skin literally GLOWS. It’s bright, hydrated and super soft and this is probably the best mask I have ever used.

I take great care of my skin and it generally looks good so when something makes a noticeable improvement I get super excited. I was skeptical if it could wow me a second time round so I tried it again the next evening and found the same glowing results. I asked my boyfriend to try it last night. His looked good afterwards and the next morning I could see the glow that I experienced straight away. I expect the difference is that my skin is already deeply exfoliated so the results were immediate and his took a little longer. All products are created in New York and nothing is tested on animals. In the US they have some beautiful stand alone stores plus two new additions in London. For more information and prices the European website is here and the worldwide website is here.

Lastly my glasses with green leather details are from Willems Eyewear, head over to my instagram if you want to see me wearing them.

A good quality serum is where the majority of your skincare budget should go, especially if your skin is showing the first signs of ageing. I’m currently using Yüli M.E. Skin Fuel in the morning and African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique at night.

I have wanted to try something from Yüli for a while and the brand suggested M.E. Skin Fuel and so far I’ve been super happy. This is a high-end line of natural skincare products from the US. The sleek and minimalist packaging is certainly instagram worthy but what I like most is that it’s gender neutral. Sometimes I prefer products that have a subtle fragrance or none at all, especially during the day. This is on the subtle side which also means it will appeal to men and women as it’s not particularly floral or sweet. It contains a cocktail of actives such as Broccoli Seed, Black Cumin Seed, Red Raspberry Seed, Seabuckthorn + Helichrysum and Jojoba which are suitable for all skin types including oily or sensitive. It’s rich yet absorbs easily with no greasiness. I like to apply it to damp skin as the oils trap any water in the skin for added moisture. It’s sold here in Germany otherwise you can go directly to Yüli.

I’ve been deeply into African Botanics since I first featured the brand here. This is also a high-end natural skincare line except these products are from South Africa. The Fleurs d’Afrique is an advanced corrective serum with the ability to reverse the signs of aging. Those are big words on my part, I know. This is mostly because it contains retinol which alongside spf is the only legitimate anti-aging ingredient. The most important thing to remember when using anything containing retinol is to use an spf 30 or higher. Personally, I use 50+ everyday. Marula oil is the heart of the range so it naturally features in this serum as well as CoQ10, vitamin C, marine micro algae and essential oils containing omega’s 3,6,7 & 9. After application my skin tingles a bit but I haven’t experienced any redness of sensitivity. I still advise you to use with caution until you know how your skin responds to retinol. You don’t need this if you are in your 20’s, unless you smoke. Otherwise it’s perfect for 30+, looking to prevent aging or reverse aging. Find your nearest stockist here. If you would like to read more about retinol I recommend this article at The Huffington Post.

FYI The glasses in this picture are from Willems Eyewear and you can see me wearing them in this instagram picture.

Do you remember when samples only came in sachet’s? There would be enough moisturiser or shampoo in one sachet for three uses but I’d have to throw it away after the first use otherwise it would dry up. Brands have upped their came and now use proper packaging so we can use the sample several times and get a proper feel for the product. These also make handy travel products and I like to save them up for when I’m going on a short trip and need to pack light. Next week I’m off to London and I’ve pulled pieces from my stash featuring some of my favourite brands. Department stores are great places to pick up samples when you are shopping. Mostly they will offer you something, I request pieces from brands I know I will like. A lot of these samples I received from Niche-beauty.com but most large online beauty stores will send samples when you order something. It’s really satisfying to use everything up whilst I’m away and not have to pack the products in my bathroom. This also leaves a tiny bit of room for new additions to pick up along the way.

There’s nothing better than a deep golden tan. And it seems rude to be pale in August but laying in the sun all day just isn’t my thing. This meant it was time to choose the best products that I knew would give me that summer feelin’ whilst avoiding the health risks from sunbathing.

James Read has the perfect range of tanning products with super cool retro packaging. The Express Bronzing Mousse gives you that rich bronzed glow that would normally take two weeks in the Caribbean to achieve. I moisturised my hairline, hands, wrists, feet and ankles then literally slapped it on and then blended like crazy. Never forget to wear gloves and always make sure there is someone to help apply it to your back. Beforehand make sure you are thoroughly exfoliated and moisturised to ensure an even tone.

I’m still using my favorite new SPF 50 from Kiehl’s and to ensure my skin is hydrated and glowing I’m using Sunday Riley Juno. This is perfect during the summer as it contains naturally unscented superfood (dry) oils which give the glow without any irritation or greasiness.

I keep my freshly bleached hair moisturised with Mukti Hair Balm. Containing only natural and organic ingredients it holds the style in place whilst hydrating and nourishing my hair. I don’t go anywhere without a pair of cool shades and this time I’m wearing an all-black pair from SALT. Optics.
