Autumn has officially kicked off so on Sunday I decided to get the camera and go for a walk in my area to capture the beautiful leaves before they fall down. Not relishing the thought of a long cold winter I reluctantly waved goodbye to Summer last week. Now that the trees are turning colour and it’s cold but not yet freezing I’m warming up, like I always do, to a cozy autumn period.

To maximise those cozy vibes there are certain things I always like to do in Autumn. Warm drinks, fluffy jumpers, richer foods and a great book usually do the trick. I mean, who doesn’t want to snuggle up on the sofa with a belly full of pizza and watch the real housewives of beverly hills. So I went and put my thinking cap on to search the best resources to help you nurture that warm and fuzzy feeling.

The best hot chocolate recipe. A couple of years ago one of my favourite blogs Food 52 asked New York’s finest chocolatiers how to make the best hot chocolate at home. It involves plenty of great chocolate and perhaps some marshmallows or a large dollop of whipped cream. You can decide how strong or sweet you want it by the chocolate you choose and how much of it you use.

Something good to read. I try to read a little before I sleep every night but with my constant instagram scrolling it usually ends up being 10 minutes. I have an online newspaper subscription which I look at in the morning or I love to check out my favourite blogs but at the moment I’m reading The Da Vinci Code. I arrived late to the Dan Brown party only reading his first book Angels and Demons earlier this year. If you haven’t read his books and you like a thriller then you should pick up a copy. Otherwise you could check out the brilliant recommendations from my London favourite Daunt Books.

Something nice to eat. As soon as it get’s cold I want richer food which I try to keep healthy most of the time. My current favourite British cook Anna Jones happens to be vegetarian which suits an animal and planet earth lover such as myself perfectly. If you fancy some meat free recipes that are bloody delicious and not too fussy to prepare then check out her blog here.

Cozy knitwear. The central heating has been on for the last couple of weeks and if you also want to save on the energy bills then a nice comfy jumper is a must. I found myself browsing online for longer than I should and came up with these options from SELECTED HOMME & SELECTED FEMME

Board Games are perfect for a chilled but fun night in. Monopoly will always be my favourite game as I’ve been playing it since I was a kid. The allure of buying houses on Park Lane still get’s me and it’s probably the closest chance I will get to the real thing. I remember afternoons playing on the carpet with my friends and then storming out of the room if I was having a particularly bad round. Sore loser much! If you fancy something less old school then Colour Brain is a new game for adults that seems pretty fun without being too complicated which is just what we need after a glass or two of red wine ; )

Autumn is my absolute favourite season! I love seeing the leaves turn to red. It hasn’t happened in Toronto yet due to the weird heat wave we’ve been having but I know it is imminent!
