blogging guide

Being you sounds so much better, but it’s hard…

Writing an e mail or jotting down the weekly shopping list. No problem! But writing something meaningful can be an absolute nightmare. It’s easy to go all formal when writing about something which can end up sounding really boring. In my earlier blog posts I used the word thus here and there. I mean, thus?! I would never use that word in an actual conversation. There’s a balance to writing content that’s easy to read without sounding like siri. I’ve been practicing and I found a couple of tips that really helped me out.

how to start a blog

You’ll be shocked by how easy this is…

The best way to sound like you when you write is to pretend you’re talking to a friend. When I heard this I thought ‘oh yeah’ why didn’t I think of that. I don’t know why but I would sit up straight and go into writer mode. That’s when it went a bit weird and the whole ‘thus’ thing started happening. Now I pretend I’m talking to a friend about whatever it is I’m writing and then it all comes out. Super easy.

how to write blog posts

This one happened by mistake…

I installed a plug-in called Yoast SEO, and no they didn’t sponsor this post but I wish they had! The free option scores your post as you are writing in the back end of your blog. Mine kept coming up as red which means needs improvement. I kept following the suggestions until it scored me green which means the readability is good. That plug-in literally changed my life.

writing tips

Two tips and I was sorted…

The combination of picturing a friend when I write and learning how to construct my sentences properly was a game changer. You need to be careful not to sound like a robot from following the rules of Yoast. But once you get the hang of it everything begins to flow.

I hear ya there. At first, when I started the blog, I struggled so much with finding my voice. I was trying to remain professional while still somehow injecting some of my personality in each piece. It definitely got easier over time but it took some time at first. I’m sure all the budding bloggers are going to really appreciate this post!

You know you’re so beautiful, it’s kind of mesmerising 🙂 And in a particularly great way – like you’re giving off something really positive.

This is a great idea. I’ve only just started blogging and I’m looking for tips so this is perfect. I’ve actually found it quite hard to keep the right tone, hopefully it will come with time.

I have to agree with you. I just started my blog and somehow i’m kinda lost when it comes to composing my contents. It’s a joy actually to write a piece that you found in the net zone, but to translate it to your own language in most entertaining way, it’s a challenge. But i enjoy it!
